[ARCHIVED] Traffic Unit Investigates Auto/Pedestrian Collision at Sullivan and Wellesley

Traffic Unit Investigates Auto/Pedestrian Collision at Sullivan and Wellesley

Spokane Valley Traffic Unit Technicians are investigating a vehicle/pedestrian crash that occurred last night just before 6:50 pm at the intersection of Sullivan Road and E. Wellesley Avenue.  The adult driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and was cooperative.  The adult pedestrian was transported to the hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.

On March 9, 2023, at approximately 6:50 pm, Spokane Valley Deputies, Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies, and the Traffic Enforcement Unit responded to a reported auto/pedestrian collision at the intersection of N. Sullivan Road and E. Wellesley Avenue.

Spokane Valley Fire and AMR personnel arrived and provided medical aid to the adult male pedestrian, who appeared to have possible life-threatening injuries.   He was transported to the hospital, where as of this morning, he continues to be evaluated and is in serious condition.

Deputies closed the intersection, secured the scene, and contacted the involved driver and witnesses.

Initial information indicates the involved vehicle was traveling north on Sullivan Road as the pedestrian appeared to be running eastbound on Wellesley, approaching the intersection.  A witness stated the male ran into the intersection, crossing Sullivan.  With the green light, the involved vehicle appeared to slow before entering the intersection but could not avoid the collision.

The adult male driver submitted to field sobriety evaluations and a voluntary portable breath test.  All showed no signs of impairment and submitted to a voluntary blood draw for later testing.   Afterward he was later released from the scene without charges.

Traffic Unit Investigators arrived at the scene to conduct the investigation, and SIRT Volunteers responded to assist with traffic control for the duration.

This remains an active investigation, and no further information is available at this time.        Crash-Sullivan
