[ARCHIVED] Fatal Semi/Bicycle Collision on N. Wood Road at W. Four Mound Road

Fatal Semi/Bicycle Collision on N. Wood Road at W. Four Mound Road

Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit Investigators continue to investigate a deadly semi-truck and bicyclist collision on N. Wood Road at W. Four Mound Road.

On May 27, 2023, at approximately 10:55 am, Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a reported semi-truck/bicyclist collision in the 14300 block of N. Wood Road.  The caller stated the bicyclist was deceased, and the truck driver remained at the scene.

Deputies and Spokane County Fire District 5 personnel arrived and confirmed the adult male bicyclist was deceased.  The adult male truck driver was identified and cooperated with Deputies and Traffic Unit Investigators.

Initial information indicates the semi-truck and bicyclist were traveling south on N. Wood Road, approaching W. Four Mound Road.  The truck driver moved over partially into the oncoming lane to overtake the bicycle when the bicyclist signaled a left turn on W. Four Mound Road and began the turn.   The truck driver applied his brakes but could not stop in time to avoid colliding with the bicyclist.

Impairment does not appear to be a factor in this deadly crash.  This remains an ongoing investigation, and a charging determination will be made at its conclusion based on all the facts/evidence gathered by Investigators.

The Spokane Medical Examiner’s Office will release the bicyclist’s name, along with the cause and manner of death, at a later date, when appropriate.
