Early this morning at approximately 7:30 a.m., Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the scene of an auto/pedestrian collision at the intersection of Argonne and Liberty in Millwood.
Traffic Unit Investigators were called to the scene to assist with the investigation, as well as SIRT Team Volunteers to assist with traffic control.
Investigators learned the victim was walking westbound in the crosswalk as she crossed Argonne at the intersection. The driver of the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Liberty, turned north on to Argonne and hit the victim.
The driver cooperated with investigators and voluntarily agreed to be evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE). After the evaluations, it was determined no signs of alcohol or drug impairment were involved. However, the driver was operating the vehicle with a suspended driver’s license and was issued a criminal citation for the violation. He was also issued infractions for failing to yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian and driving with no proof of insurance.
The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office and Spokane Valley Police Department would like to remind drivers to be cautious and to be aware of pedestrians, especially during and around school times. Please slow down, obey school zone speed limits and use caution as the sunlight dwindles during the morning and evening commute.
