Vehicle/Train Fatality Investigation

Today at 9:39 a.m., Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a vehicle vs. train fatality collision on Brooks Rd. south of McFarlane Rd.

A pick-up truck, traveling southbound on Brooks Road, was struck at the railroad crossing by a Burlington Northern train traveling westbound on the rail. A male and female in the vehicle were pronounced deceased at the scene by medical personnel.

At this point in time, the collision is still under investigation. Brooks Road will be closed to north and southbound traffic between McFarlane and Thorpe for the majority of the afternoon.

Burlington Northern personnel, as well as Sheriff’s Office Collision Investigators, are on scene working to determine how and why this fatal collision occurred.

The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the names of the victims at a later time when appropriate.
