Trying to Identify 2nd Suspect Who Fled from a Stolen
Vehicle and Possibly Stole Another Vehicle Soon After
Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies, investigating a separate incident at the Walgreens on N. Division, located an occupied stolen vehicle. They arrested Bradley W. Shrader after a struggle but a second male suspect fled the scene on foot and possibly stole another vehicle from a victim a short time later. Investigators are working to identify the unidentified suspect and they are requesting your help.
On January 12, 2017, at approximately 3:00 a.m., Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies, investigating a separate incident, arrived in the parking lot of Walgreens located at 7905 N. Division. The two deputies, riding together as a two person patrol unit, observed a maroon Chevy Impala in the middle of the parking lot. There was a male standing outside the driver’s door talking to a male in the driver’s seat.
As the deputies pulled up to park, the driver, later identified as 35-year-old Bradley W. Shrader, exited the vehicle and walked into the store with the second male. The deputies checked the vehicle’s license plate and learned it was reported stolen on January 10, 2017, in the City of Spokane. The deputies also noticed a female sitting in the backseat of the vehicle.
The deputies contacted the males when they exited the store and began to walk back toward the stolen vehicle. The males were ordered to sit down on the ground and hesitantly complied after the second command. After a few seconds, the second male quickly stood up and fled on foot with Deputy Nitti giving chase.
Deputy Westlake, now with his attention divided between Shrader and the female in the unsearched stolen vehicle, and Deputy Nitti in foot pursuit, ordered Shrader to lie down on his stomach. Shrader refused to comply. Deputy Westlake grabbed ahold of Shrader and began to force him to the ground but Shrader physically resisted. After a struggle, Deputy Westlake gained control of Shrader and placed him handcuffs with the assistance of Deputy Nitti who had returned after hearing Deputy Westlake yell for assistance.
It was determined the adult female located inside the vehicle had just met the males, was riding around with them and did not know the vehicle was stolen. She was not charged and later released at the scene.
The deputies also recovered a small baggie containing a white crystalline substance the second suspect threw on the ground. The substance was field tested and showed a presumptive positive result for methamphetamine.
Shrader was transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and Obstructing.
Assisting Deputies, Spokane Police Officers and a Spokane Police K9 searched for the fleeing suspect but were unsuccessful.
Investigators are also looking into the possibility the fleeing suspect stole a vehicle from an adult female victim approximately an hour later. In that case, the victim told Spokane Police Officers she was sleeping in her car in the parking lot of Walmart when she was awaken by a male knocking on her window. He told her he needed to get to a hospital and needed a ride downtown. He said he was running from the cops because of an incident at Walgreens and she observed dried blood on his hands.
She let him in the vehicle and drove to the 76 gas station at 8624 N. Nevada where she stopped. She told the suspect she couldn’t drive him any further and he said he needed to get to a hospital and out of the area. He motioned toward his waistband several times leading the victim to believe he was armed with a gun but she never saw one and he didn’t specifically say he had a gun. The suspect shoved her out of the driver’s door and drove away in her car.
