Fatal Collision North of Newman Lake

Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a serious injury, one vehicle crash on N. Muzzy Rd. east of N. Thompson Creek Rd., yesterday afternoon just before 4:30 p.m.  The adult male driver and sole occupant was pronounced deceased at the scene.

On July 26, 2017, Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a one vehicle crash where the male driver was found bleeding and unconscious.

Newman Lake Fire personnel were the first to arrive at the scene, immediately began life-saving efforts and requested a Life Flight Helicopter for transport due to the seriousness of the driver’s injuries.

After attempting CPR and additional life-saving efforts for over half an hour, the driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Spokane County Traffic Collision Investigators were called to the location to continue the investigation, along with Spokane County SIRT Volunteers, to assist with traffic control while the roadway was closed to traffic.

With the initial information gained at the scene, the mid-90s Ford Explorer was traveling south on Muzzy Rd. (35 mph zone) as it approached a sharp curve (posted cautionary 25 mph).  Traveling too fast, the driver lost control of the vehicle causing it to slide off the road and into a large tree.

The driver was not wearing a seat belt and Investigators believe speed was a factor in the fatal crash.  It is not known at this time if impairment or addition factors were involved.

The name of the driver will be released by the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office when appropriate to do so.

There were no known witnesses to this incident.  Investigators urge anyone who witnessed or has information regarding this incident to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233 ref: #10098099.
