Environmental Services Receives Awards from Ecology
SPOKANE COUNTY, August 17, 2020 – The Environmental Services Department received a double-dose of good news when the Washington State Department of Ecology announced that both the Spokane County Regional Water Reclamation Facility (SCRWRF) – and – the Latah Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant were recipients of the 2019 “Wastewater Treatment Plant Outstanding Performance” award. 2019 is the second year in a row that the SCRWRF achieved full compliance with its National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES). It is also the second year in a row that the Latah Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant achieved full compliance with the State Waste Discharge (SWD) permit.
In announcing the awards, the Department of Ecology noted that it takes “diligent operators and a strong management team, working effectively together, to achieve this high level of compliance”. Environmental Services Director Kevin Cooke echoed that observation, praising operations staff for their hard work. “It takes determination and commitment to keep wastewater facilities running at their peak performance around-the-clock. We are fortunate to have such talented and proficient operators on our staff providing excellent service to the community and protecting Spokane County’s waters,” Cooke said.
