Annual Fall Compost Fair Goes Virtual

Great info and a chance to earn a FREE compost bin

SPOKANE COUNTY, October 13, 2020 – There won’t be a fall Compost Fair this October at Finch Arboretum, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still learn more about composting your fall leaves at home. The Spokane County Master Composters/Recyclers are bringing their fall compost fair to the public in a virtual event. For one week, county residents can get the same great home composting tips in an online class that they would have if attending Finch Arboretum’s Leaf Festival in person. The same great information as well as the same opportunity for county residents to earn a free compost bin will be provided!

The class will take place on a learning platform called LearnWorlds. Participants will need to go the city’s solid waste online training page and enroll by creating a log-in and password. Once an account is created complete, the event can be accessed by choosing the Virtual Fall Compost Fair 2020 link after Oct. 24 when the class officially opens. Participants would then be able to access the lessons, but not before. Beginning the 24th, viewers will have until the 30th to watch videos, read content and take a very short quiz to check their knowledge. Once the quiz is submitted, the “student” can download a coupon which can be redeemed for a free compost bin.

Students must be a county resident to get the bin, IDs will be checked at pick up, and there is a limit of one per household. Coupons can be redeemed at the Waste to Energy facility’s administration building between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. the week of Nov. 2-6 or by special arrangement. The WTE Admin. Bldg. is located at 2900 S. Geiger Blvd., Spokane. Due to limited staff and the need to maintain social distancing, this online class will be the only way residents can earn a free compost bin this year from the Spokane County Regional Solid Waste System
