Local Student Artwork Inspires Recycling
Artwork of finalists featured in 2021 "Spokane Recycles" Calendar
SPOKANE COUNTY, November 9, 2020 – Students from more than fifteen Spokane County schools created hand-drawn posters for entry in the “America Recycles Day 2020” poster contest. Their work, meant to raise awareness of our need to reduce waste, was based on the theme, “Erase the Waste: Reduce, Reuse, THEN Recycle!” The annual competition, open to students in kindergarten through the eighth grade, is sponsored by the Spokane County Regional Solid Waste System (SCRSWS) and is part of America Recycles Day activities taking place across the country through November 15.
Thirty grade level finalists have their work displayed on the second floor of River Park Square through Nov. 15. Of those finalists, 15 will be selected to have their posters illustrate the 2021 “Spokane County Recycles” calendar.
A limited number of calendars will be available free of charge from the City of Spokane Solid Waste Disposal Dept. administration office beginning in late December. Call 509-625-6580 or email solidwaste@spokanecity.org to reserve yours.
About America Recycles Day: The official “America Recycles Day” is November 15, and serves to remind citizens to continue to raise awareness about the need to reduce waste by reusing, recycling, and buying recycled-content products during the month of November 2020.
