Road Construction and Maintenance Update

October 8-15, 2021

  
SPOKANE COUNTY, October 8, 2021 – Spokane County has a variety of road construction and maintenance projects underway. Motorists are asked to slow-down in work zones, use caution around heavy equipment and please watch for our crews.

ROAD CONSTRUCTION

57th Ave- Perry St. to Mt. Vernon Rd.
Constructing ADA ramps, median island construction, HMA grinding and paving. The road is open to through traffic. Motorists are advised to be cautious around workers and equipment near the edge of the roadway. Completed: November 30, 2021.
 
Appleway Ave Reconstuction – Full Road Closure on Monday, September 13 2021.
Improvement of Appleway Ave. by removing asphalt and concrete pavement, planning bituminous pavement, grading and shaping crushed surfacing, HMA, guardrail, pavement markings. Completed: November 30, 2021.
          Appleway Av: from Spokane Bridge Rd to Spokane Bridge Rd
          Intersection of Appleway Ave. and Spokane Bridge Rd. Please slow-down in 
          the work zone.
 
Bigelow Gulch Phase 3
Road Reconstruction (remove and replace), culverts, stormwater, guardrail and illumination system. Completed: October 31, 2021.
          Weile Ave: from Thierman Rd to Bigelow Gulch Rd
          Motorists should expect lane restrictions (both directions, both lanes). Road is
          OPEN!
 
Columbia Dr- Northwood to Argonne.
Roadway Excavation, ADA ramp installation, Pavement removal and repaving. Lane Closures and flagging. Full closure – traffic detour is through Jacobs, Thierman, Jensen, Bigelow, Argonne and Elton. Completed: October 25, 2021.
          Columbia Dr: from Northwood Dr to Argonne Rd
          Road Closed: Road closed for project.
 
Frideger Road Bridge Replacement
The road is CLOSED while the existing bridge is being removed for the construction of a new structure over the Little Spokane River. The project includes the removal of the existing roadway and widening with the construction of the new roadway. Completed: October 31, 2021.
          Frideger Rd: from Bridge #4902 Over Little Spokane River to Bridge #4902
          Over Little Spokane River – Road is CLOSED – Bridge OUT!
          
Flaggers may be present (both directions, all lanes): Detour route in place on
          Bridges Road, Madison Road and Frideger Road.
 
Wellesley Railroad Crossing Improvement
Removing pavement, crushed surfacing top course, HMA, cement concrete curb, guide posts, pavement markings, permanent signing, temporary traffic control. Completed: November 30, 2021.
          Wellesley Av: from Railroad Av to Murray Rd
          
Lane restrictions (both directions, all lanes): Watch for flagger's, road closures, lane
          restrictions, detour route.
 
          Garland Av: from Molter Rd to Murray Rd
          Lane Restrictions (both directions, all lanes): Watch for flaggers & detours.
 
PRIVATE CONTRACTOR WORK BY PERMIT
 
East-Bound Trent Detour
East-bound Trent traffic is detoured onto Wellesley to Harvard. Truck restrictions will be waived during the detour period. Completed: October 11, 2021.  
          Wellesley Avenue: from SR-290 (Trent Ave.) to Harvard Rd.
          Lane restriction (east-bound, all lanes). Truck restriction will be waived during the
          detour period.
 
Glennaire and Willamette Plat Development P-2082
ACI Northwest (208-209-0199) crew is working on utility tie-ins. Completed: October 11, 2021.
          Glennaire Dr: from Custer St to Willamette St
          ROAD CLOSED AT GLENNAIRE DR. TO THE NORTH OF WILLAMETTE ST.
 
CITIZEN EVENT BY PERMIT
 
PNW Marching Band Championships
Marching Band Competition – Contact: Ned Wendle (509-465-7657). Competition is scheduled for Sunday, October 10th from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.
          Freya St: from Farwell Rd to Hastings Av
          Road Closed with barriers in place. Freya will be closed from Hastings to Farwell
          Road. Barriers at each of the street will be utilized. Freya will be closed from
          Hastings to Farwell Rd.

Asphalt Overlay on Various Roads in Spokane County
Overlay is a paving method of applying a new layer of asphalt to a deteriorating surface.
          Short Rd: from Stevens County Line to Deer Park City Limits.
          Motorists should expect delays in both directions and all lanes. Be prepared to stop
          and watch for flaggers. Completed: October 13, 2021.
 
          Chattaroy Rd: from BNSF Crossing #83331 to Perry Rd
          Motorists should expect delays in both direction and all lanes. Be prepared to stop
          and watch for flaggers. Completed: October 14, 2021.
 
Crack Sealing on Various Roads in Spokane County
Crack Sealing on various asphalt roads, to prevent further break-up of the asphalt surface. Completed: October 14, 2021.
          Drury Rd: from Wellesley Av to Joseph Av
          Lane restrictions (both directions, all lanes). Motorists are asked to slow-down and
          to watch for flaggers.
 
          Mitchell Dr: from Joseph Av to North End Of Road
          Lane restrictions (both directions, all lanes). Motorists are asked to slow-down and
          to watch for flaggers.
 
          Van Marter Rd: from Upriver Dr to South End To Rockwell Av
          Lane restrictions (both directions, all lanes). Motorists are asked to slow-down and
          to watch for flaggers.
 
Shoulder Preservation on Various Roads in Spokane County
Grade and add gravel to build up sides of road on gravel shoulder. Dates: October 11-21, 2021.
          Bradshaw Rd: from Fairfield City Limits to Starr Rd
          Lane restrictions (both directions, all lanes). Motorists are asked to slow-down and
          to watch for flaggers.

          Old SR-195 Hy: from Powers Rd to South Spangle Rd
          Lane restrictions (both directions, all lanes). Motorists are asked to slow-down and
          to watch for flaggers.

          Molter Rd: from Elder Rd to Stringham Rd
          Lane restrictions (both directions, all lanes). Motorists are asked to slow-down and
          to watch for flaggers.
