Crews Work Around the Clock to Clear Road System

More than 5,100 lane miles

SPOKANE COUNTY, January 7, 2022 – Road crews have been working long hours through the night to plow, sand and deice the largest county road system in the State of Washington (more than 51-hundred lane miles).

As several inches of snow fell yesterday, crews were kept busy plowing emergency routes and primary arterials.  With wind gusts of up to 55 mph in combination with heavy, wet snow on trees/powerlines, there is increased concern for downed branches/trees and powerlines. Today’s partial thaw and gusty winds will help crews thoroughly clear arterials of residual snow before it hardens into icy ruts over the next couple of days – and also make some progress in clearing secondary roads.

Crews will continue working long hours this weekend plowing, sanding and deicing – and expect to be working in the county’s residential areas by Sunday. Motorists are advised that temperatures will drop well below freezing overnight resulting in icy road conditions through the weekend and into next week.
