Seasonal Weight Restrictions Begin on County Roads

SPOKANE COUNTY, January 28, 2022 – The Spokane County Public Works Department announced today that seasonal weight restrictions are in effect on certain roads and signage is in place. Typically, during late winter the region experiences a freeze-thaw cycle that weakens roadway surfaces and undermines the sub-structures, requiring the implementation of weight restrictions to reduce the amount of damage. Seasonal weather conditions vary from year-to-year and dictate the extent of the restrictions and when they go into effect. Typically, these restrictions do not apply to the average car or pickup truck. However, commercial and construction vehicles may need to lighten their loads in order to comply with the restrictions, or use an alternate route.

The number of affected roads is expected to increase as spring approaches and the list of weight-restricted roads may change frequently. Go to: Road Restrictions | Spokane County, WA or the Travel Impacts Map (spokanecounty.org).
