Road Construction and Maintenance Update
June 2-9, 2023
SPOKANE COUNTY, June 2, 2023 – Motorists are reminded to slow down in work zones and to watch for crews. In addition, there is a fun run on Saturday, June 3rd from 9-11 a.m. in the vicinity of Freeman High School. "Run the Palouse" will include flaggers and signage, but please watch for runners/walkers on the roads. More information is available under the heading "Citizen Event by Permit".

SPOKANE COUNTY ROAD CONSTRUCTION
57th Ave Preservation-Mt. Vernon to Palouse Hwy Project – Start TBD
Improvement of 57th Avenue - Mt. Vernon Rd to Palouse Hwy by constructing ADA ramp retrofits, median island removal/construction, HMA grinding and paving, temporary pavement marking, project traffic control and other work.
Bigelow Gulch Mitigation
Improvement of the Bigelow Gulch Road Offsite Mitigation site located along Minnie Creek near Fish Lake Regional Park by clearing and grubbing, temporary irrigation, grading, planting and other work.
Bigelow Gulch Project # 2- Urban Boundary to Weile Ave – Start Date June 20, 2023
Improvement of Bigelow Gulch Road from the Urban Boundary to Weile by reconstructing the road to a wider section on a new alignment by clearing and grubbing, roadway excavation, embankment compaction, culvert pipe, cement, illumination & traffic control. Completed: August 31, 2023.
Bigelow Gulch Rd: from Weile Av to Palmer Rd
Lane restrictions (both directions, all lanes): Lane closures, watch for flaggers.
Brooks Road Reconstruction – Start Date June 28, 2023
Improvement of Brooks Road by reconstruction and widening by clearing and grubbing, roadway excavation, embankment compaction, cement spreading, crushed surfacing, hot mix asphalt, contractor designed underground structure, beam guardrail and other work. Completed: July 31, 2023.
Brooks Rd: from Medical Lake City Limits to Thorpe Rd
Road CLOSED! Full road closure starting 6/12. No traffic will be allowed through from Railroad tracks just north of city limits to allow replacement of the drainage structure just north of the tracks. Detour will be Espanola Road to the west.
Euclid Road Bridge No. 1508
Removing and constructing new bridge and road approaches; including asphalt pavement, signing, striping, erosion control, filter drain, installing beam guardrail, and miscellaneous structures. Completed: September 29, 2023.
Euclid Rd: from Bridge #1508 over Burlington Northern Santa Fe tracks to Lyons Rd. Road Closed: Bridge is closed. Use Detour.
Lincoln Road and Sewer
Project includes improvements to Lincoln Road from Market Street to Crestline Street by replacement of the entire roadway, widening vehicle travel lanes, the addition of stormwater management infrastructure, and moving pedestrians to new locations. https://www.spokanecounty.org/5214/Lincoln-Road-and-Sewer. Lincoln Rd: from Market St to Crestline St
Road CLOSED! Lincoln road is closed with local access for businesses and residents. Watch for workers and equipment. There will be times and locations where the road will impassable.
West Terrace Stormwater Project
This project provides for the improvement of Hayford Road and Richland Road with the construction of a storm sewer system. The project includes a catch basin, corrugated metal pipe, drop inlet, cutoff wall/pipe anchors, unsuitable pipe foundation, dewatering, and paving. Completed: July 1, 2023.

Hayford Rd: from Westbow Rd to Richland Rd
Road CLOSED intersection of Westbow and Hayford. Not closed near Richland.

Farwell Road Multifamily Apartments

Farwell Rd: from Ruby Rd to Mayfair Rd
Road CLOSED! Full road closure on E Farwell Rd between N Ruby Rd and N Mayfair Rd with 24 hours duration time.
Mead Works
Contact: Continental Contractors (509) 724-3179. Water & Sewer tie-in at Mellon Parkway and Farwell Rd. eastbound. Completed: August 18, 2023.

Proposed Aerial Coax Installation
Contact: Sefnco (509) 822-1482. Work will be from 22415 to 22513 E. Broad Ave. (approx. 353 feet). Completed: June 15, 2023.
Eva St: from Broad Av to Wabash Av
Road CLOSED: Partial road closure on E Broad Ave at N Eva Rd & E Wellesley Ave. Duration of closure will be 1-2 days anywhere between the dates of 5/15 thru 6/15 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
CITIZEN EVENT BY PERMIT
Run the Palouse – Saturday June 3, 2023
Contact: Mallory McDonald (206) 327-4747. 5K/1 Mile Fun Run (9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.) – Starts at Freeman High School and continues south on Jackson Rd. Then turns east on Elder Rd. and continues north on the Freeman Trail and returns to the school.
Jackson Rd: from SR-27 to Jackson Rd (#02103) ~ MP=4.400
Flaggers and race attendants will be positioned throughout the course. Traffic cones, barricades or signs will be used.
ROAD MAINTENANCE
Chip Seal/Seal Coat
