Bear Lake Regional Park is a 166-acre park located 15 miles north of Spokane, adjacent to SR-2 (Newport Highway) in a rural setting. The park serves the metropolitan areas and the more immediate residents of the communities of Chattaroy, Colbert, Elk, and the City of Deer Park. The spring-fed lake has a surface area of approximately 35 acres with associated wetlands and upland forest. Please note: Swimmer's Itch is a potential at any area lake, including Bear Lake. No confirmed cases have been recently reported to Spokane County Parks. However, Spokane County Parks recommends that you shower as soon as possible after your swim as a precaution.
Amenities
The park has 175 parking spaces, 166 acres of park, play equipment, hiking trails, shelters, BBQ areas, and a swimming beach. There are no lifeguards, so swim at your own risk. The lake is also popular for fishing under special youth rules (see current fishing regulations). The use of combustible engines are prohibited.
Shelter Reservation
There are two picnic shelters at Bear Lake. Only the West Shelter can be reserved for a fee. For more information on reserving a shelter, please click here.
The Bear Lake West Shelter is on the west side of the lake near the playground, volleyball court, restrooms, and lake access. The Bear Lake East Shelter is available on a first come, first serve basis.
